About The Crooked Spoon

One soup, two toasties, and a very small cupboard in Marsden Yard. Here's how that happened.

The story so far. (It's not very long.)

In 2024, Nia was working a corporate job in Manchester and eating lunch at her desk. She got tired of soggy plastic-wrapped sandwiches and coffee that tasted like burnt rubber. So she quit, signed a lease on a tiny cupboard of a unit in Marsden Yard, bought an espresso machine, and opened The Crooked Spoon.

We're not trying to conquer the world. We make what we can handle. We buy fresh sourdough and ingredients from local markets every single morning. Nia makes the soup at 7:00am, preps the fillings, and starts grinding coffee. When we run out of food, that's it. It keeps the ingredients fresh and saves us from throwing away food at the end of the day.

If you're looking for a menu with fifty options and a waiter who calls you 'sir', you won't like it here. But if you want a really good coffee and a toastie that'll keep you going through your afternoon meetings, come squeeze in.
